Community gardening

Gardening is the leading leisure time pursuit in the United States. Gardening is a great equalizer; it is one of those few places where we can all be on the same footing, rich or poor. Community gardeners enrich our lives in environmentally rich and diverse community gardens. We share experience and produce with each other and through the food bank those less fortunate. It is a peaceful community that shows respect for divergence as long as it doesn’t shade. It is in this environment that we enrich our lives both with what we eat and through the community we build with each other.

Friends promotes sustainable practices working to create gardens for the future that are based on preserving biodiversity, establishing organic sources for food and strengthening the healing bond between humans and the earth across economic, racial ethnic, ability and gender lines.

Our education programs teach organic gardening practices for composting, water conservation, native plant landscaping, creation and maintenance of wildlife habitats, and community protected open space. The Trust brings together people and energy in compost socials, community work parties, musical and dining events, all shared through the P-Patch Post newsletter.
